Sep 2014
It seems as though most people are divided when it comes to autumn: some loathe the fact that summer is over and the nights are getting colder while others can’t think of anything better than putting on their favourite knitted jumper and having a bonfire. As a salon owner, no matter which way you feel about autumn you should make sure that you take advantage of the change of season by offering your customers new nail art designs. In this week’s blog Nova Insurance looks at our favourite styles that are sure to get your customers into the autumn spirit:
Pumpkin Nails
A few years ago only America was privileged enough to enjoy pumpkin spiced lattes during autumn, but thankfully they came over to the UK not long ago. The smell and taste of pumpkin is what defines autumn for some people, which is why pumpkin nail designs are extremely popular this month.
When it comes to pumpkin nail art there are a number of designs you can choose from: the traditional Halloween pumpkin complete with a smiley/scary face, realistic pumpkins or something more abstract such as orange nails with green tips. Either way, each design will need to be intricate in order to look good, so make sure you brush up on your skills before trying them on your customers!
Jewel Toned Nails
During the summer most of your clients will choose bright, exciting colours in order to get noticed at the beach, however during winter months they will probably want something sultrier. Jewel tone nail varnishes are a great way to vamp up any manicure, which is why you should stock up on a range of dark reds, purples, browns and blacks as soon as possible.
If one of your clients is feeling a bit adventurous you could even offer them matte jewel nails. The great thing about matte nails is that you don’t have to buy a separate versions of each colour, just a top coat that gives a matte effect. You can also play around with matte and shiny top coats in order to give a striking finish!
Gold Leaf Designs
Along with jewel colours, gold is extremely popular in the autumn months (just think about all those gold leaves on the trees!) Clever nail artists have already spotted this trend and instead of just using gold nail varnish have started utilising gold leaf in order to create truly eye-catching nail designs.
The only issue with applying gold leaf to nails is that it can be very tricky and also takes a substantial amount of time as you have to make sure each layer has dried properly before doing the next. So if one of your clients wants to use gold leaf make sure you book them in for at least an hour or two!
Nail Gems
If one of your clients really wants the wow factor then make sure you offer them nail gems, which can be of any size, any colour and used to create any design. Nail gems vary depending on the type of nails your customer has (for instance acrylic nails are more likely to withstand larger, heavier gems) however these days there are hundreds of variations to choose from.
As with gold leaf, applying nail gems takes time, and you also have to cover the cost of any equipment you use on your salon insurance. Therefore, if you are offering your clients nail gems make sure you give yourself the time to do each manicure properly, especially if they are going somewhere special that night!
This is just a small sample of the nail designs you can offer your customers this autumn, so make sure you take a look around and find the ones you love the most.
