Last month we ran a competition to try and find the number one salon out of 40 selected London salons. The salons included the likes of Paul Edmonds in Knightsbridge, Alfred Dunhill in Mayfair, Brooks and Brooks in Marylebone and many more. These salons were all high end, popular London salons with great reputations, so the competition was a close one.

After campaigning on Twitter, Facebook and other social sites, contacting friends and family and even sweet talking their clients there was thousands of entries for this award but the salon with the most votes was Michaeljohn in Belgravia! After winning the award we wanted to ask Michaeljohn more about their salon and why they are so successful:

Tell us a bit about the history of Michaeljohn.

Founded in 1967, Michaeljohn was created from the meeting of Michael Rasser and John Isaacs who were working together as stylists. Michael and John envisioned a salon that provided exceptional services in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Tailored to ensure that each hairstyle suits our client’s look and lifestyle, Michael soon became known for his dedicated and personal service, attracting celebrities such as Mick Jagger, supermodel Iman, Liza Minelli and Princess Anne.

Michaeljohn relocated its flagship salon to Albemarle Street, where it remains today. The Royal Victoria Medal was awarded to Michael in 2001 in recognition of his contribution to hairdressing and commitment to training the succeeding generation of hair stylists. Michaeljohn opened a Beauty and Medispa in Motcomb Street, Belgravia in 2012 offering a full range of beauty and medispa treatments. The Fine Hair Clinic was also opening in the same year at the flagship salon and in 2013 Michaeljohn opened its second hair salon on Brompton Road, Knightsbridge.

Our expertly schooled team of stylists and colourists are renowned for creating elegant and sophisticated looks for a modern day lifestyle. In our Medispas we offer the very latest in medical aesthetic services and our luxurious beauty rooms offer a full range of tailor-made beauty treatments.
What types of treatments do you provide?

Our treatments are the very best in hair, beauty and medical aesthetic services from experts in the field. Our treatments range from all things hair including colouring, styling, extensions and intensive treatments to medical and aesthetic beauty treatments in our Medispa including Soprano Laser Hair Removal, injectables, facials, nails and more.

Do you have any advice for other salon owners?

Attention to detail is everything, above all understand and communicate with your client to achieve the best results and ensure that they are 100% happy with the service.

How do you feel about winning our Top 40 London Salons Competition?

We are incredibly excited about this and are very thankful for all of the support from our loyal clients and friends of the salon.

What plans does the salon have for the future?

We are always looking to expand and build our Michaeljohn team….who knows what the future will bring!

Do you have any deals you would like our customers to know about?

We are offering a summer deal where you get a half head of highlights, conditioning Kérastase rituals treatment and a blow dry, all done by a senior colourist for £150. Another summer special we have is a manicure and blow dry deal for only £55. In August we are doing a 60 minute Anne Semonin Tailor Made Facial for £45. We also do a ‘Treat a Friend’ deal on a Monday and Wednesday where you can get a Hydrafacial buy one get 50% off the second treatment. The treatment is usually £150 per person.
