Mar 2014
It’s been a long, cold, wet winter, however over the past few weeks we’ve started to see blossom on the trees and sunshine peeking through the clouds. This means that spring is well and truly on its way, and we can already see people looking and feeling more lively and rejuvenated. Spring is therefore a great time for salon owners to make the most out of their businesses, and in this blog Nova Insurance shows you how:
The Traditional Spring Clean
Spring wouldn’t be spring without spring cleaning, so make sure you put some time aside to give your salon a good scrub from top to bottom. Even though most salon owners are meticulous when it comes to the cleanliness of their salon (no customer likes a dirty one!), there is not always the time to give everything a good and proper scrub. Start with the basics such as your sinks or beauty equipment that you use on a regular basis, then move on to mirrors, work stations, tables, chairs, and anything else you can think of. Don’t forget to also give your store rooms a good clean, as even though your customers don’t see them they should be as presentable as the front of your salon!
Invest in New Equipment
Spring is a great time to get rid of all the old equipment you own and invest in new pieces, especially if some of the items have seen better days. After you have given your salon a proper clean you will begin to notice equipment that is starting to look a little worn out, and even though it may be expensive to replace, it’s better to do it now before it gets worse. Don’t forget, it’s not just large pieces of equipment that you can invest in this spring; you could always replace small items such as hairbrushes, nail files, towels, pictures, coat racks – in fact anything you can think of. Just don’t forget to make sure all your new purchases are covered by your salon insurance policy, that way they will be protected against any future damage.
Try Something New
As a salon owner, you and your staff represent the type of services that your customers can receive, so you need to make sure you are all always looking your best. During spring a number of your clients will start to think about trying something new, however for many even though this thought is tempting it can also be daunting. This is why you should take the lead and try something new first, showing your customers that changing your hair or beauty treatments can make you look and feel ten times better. You could even make a night of it with your staff members by giving each other makeovers and trying new styles that you think will be popular this spring. Magazines and websites are great places to get some new ideas and find out upcoming trends, so make sure you check these first!
Purchase New Stock
Along with getting rid of old equipment, spring is a great time to purchase some new stock for your salon. If you have used the same brand of shampoo, conditioner, hair styling product, nail varnish or anything else for that matter for a substantial period of time, you may want to think about trying something new. Even though you may be comfortable with, and trust, the products you currently use, you could at the same time be missing out on newer, more effective products that your customers will love. Many salons and beauticians make a good amount of money selling products on top of offering treatments, so if you do purchase new products make sure your staff let your clients know when they come in. By telling your customers about the benefits of certain new products they will be more inclined to buy some for themselves, ultimately making your salon even more money.
At Nova Insurance we often talk about how salon owners should always try and think of new ways to attract customers and improve their businesses, and spring is the perfect time. So make sure you embrace the change of season and give your salon a well-deserved renovation!
